Home Organization

Project:
This project was new construction. Originally, the architect had allowed less than half the size for a shared master closet. The client wanted separate His/Her areas. The closet space was extended into a loft area and another area in the suite was allocated for His closet. Her new closet area had ample space, but was very narrow. Her goal was to create a dramatic, elegant environment in harmony with the “Old World” style of the home. Crown moulding had already been added at the ceiling and Brazilian cherry floors were installed.

Originally, the client wanted all hanging and shelving behind doors, in addition to two hampers, drawers and jewelry storage. Due to the narrowness of the area, our recommendation was to keep the wardrobe open.

Entrant's Goals: The goal in designing this project was to blend “Old World” style and embellishments, create a visual flow to widen the space and include the functional requirements expressed by the client.

Summer Flame melamine was selected, along with 3mm edging. Glazed raised panel drawers, doors, crown/base moulding and fluted column pilasters were chosen to complement the flooring. All areas were fully-backed. Oil-rubbed bronze rods and accessories were used.

Separate wardrobe areas were created with casual, every-day items placed in the forward portion of the closet and formal, out-of-season items placed at the back portion of the closet. The back wall also includes a framed mirror door flanked by columns and includes storage shelving behind it. The placement here was twofold: to provide a full-mirror view and to create the illusion of wideness.

The dresser unit combined with one hamper, framed doors with chinchilla glass and jewelry drawers was located on the right. Adjustable shelving and one hamper was located on the left; both flanked with column pilasters equally balanced.
